SAWS to open bulk water distribution sites Friday
Residents will need to bring their own clean containers to fill with water. Customers will be allowed five gallons of water per person. As a precaution, the water should be boiled before drinking or used in cooking, mirroring the current boil water notice advisory for the city, officials said. Operating hours will be from 12 to 6 p.m. on Friday. Beginning Saturday, operating hours will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. The sites will be open until the water system is back to normal operating conditions. Customers should expect the possibility of long lines at the pump stations. Residents are asked to adhere to all COVID-19 precautions, such as wearing a mask and maintaining at least six feet of physical distance. The city of San Antonio and the San Antonio Food Bank will also be setting up separate bottled water distribution sites throughout the city. More information on that program is coming soon.

Blood donors sought as San Antonio Metro Health declares blood emergency in city.
Winter weather leaves San Antonio, South Texas in blood shortage emergency.
San Antonio Metro Health has declared a blood emergency in the city, as the recent winter weather has left San Antonio and South Texas in a blood shortage emergency. Health officials said there is not enough blood on hand to treat trauma cases and patients who need emergency surgeries and procedures which require blood. At least 2,000 donations have been lost by donor room closures and the cancellation of blood drives, health officials said.
The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center, which health officials said is a subsidiary of nonprofit BioBridge Global, is asking donors to give when able to do so safely at its Donor Pavilion, Shavano Park and Northeast donor rooms. The facilities are open during daylight hours Tuesday and Wednesday, but health officials said all blood drives have been canceled and the other donor rooms are not open. Same-day appointments and walk-in donations are being accepted. Officials said donors can call 210-731-5590 for information or to make an appointment, or they can visit SouthTexasBlood.org.
