11-month-old dies after ‘inadvertently’ being left in car by father, police say

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — An 11-month-old girl died Friday after her father inadvertently left her in a car for an extended amount of time while he took another vehicle to run errands, police said.

Officers found the girl unresponsive in the rear seat of an SUV at about 5 p.m., WUSA reported

The infant was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators said the father put the child in the car, then left in a different vehicle to run errands. He returned home and used the SUV to pick up another child from day care when he realized the infant was still in the car.

A medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death, investigators said.

No charges have been filed at this time.
