Andrew Mitchell is a plumber and his brother-in-law, Isiah Pinnock, is an apprentice, WABC reported. When Mitchell heard that plumbers in Texas were overwhelmed with calls regarding burst and leaking pipes, he decided to drive to the Houston area to help out.

“Some people’s homes have lost power, heat, some people have been without water for days -- almost over a week,” Mitchell’s wife, Kisha Pinnock, told WABC.

Before leaving New Jersey, the couple bought $2,000 worth of plumbing supplies since they were scarce in Texas, KATC reported.

Pinnock’s sister, who lives in Houston, connected them with several people who wanted to hire plumbers, CNN reported. Those families were eager to enlist the services of Mitchell’s Plumbing & Heating.

Since arriving Sunday, the plumbers have been going house-to-house making critical repairs.

”People can’t get water, so we drove down here on Saturday, got here on Sunday, we went straight to work,” Kisha Pinnock told KTRK. “Andrew and Isiah -- Isiah has been a huge helper, Andrew has been teaching him a lot, they have been getting busy and getting to work and we are really excited and thankful that we could be a blessing to other people.”

The Jersey plumbers have already made a difference, completing more than a dozen jobs by Tuesday.

Derrick Dock, of Spring, told CNN he had contacted at least 15 plumbers without success before hearing about Mitchell’s service.

“We had to relocate for over a week because we needed to get someone out there,” Dock, who was forced to stay with relatives because of a broken pipe in his garage, told CNN. “And of course, with the plumbers here they were already overwhelmed with the work that was going on.”

The New Jersey group had planned to return home next week, but now said they will stay for about two weeks because they have received so many calls from residents.

“I think that we made a difference, for sure,” Pinnock told CNN.
