The Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital opened in 1917 when San Antonio was the largest city in Texas and growing fast with thousands of troops massing to deploy in World War I, and thousands of refugees fleeing the Mexican Revolution. The hospital opened just in time to care for victims of the deadly influenza pandemic of 1918. More than a hundred years later, as a central part of the University Health System, many Bexar County residents are again being vaccinated during a global pandemic at the Robert B. Green.
